Canning Jar Hanging Lights

Recently, our local Bob Evans Restaurant has remodeled the dinning rooms to give it a more airy, country feel.  Over the bar/counter seating, they have the neatest hanging lights and the shades are made out of canning jars.  I LOVE the old blue canning jars.  I have several of them and almost always buy them if I come across them at antique stores, flea markets or garage sales.  Here are a few of my blue jars. . .

There's one in my sewing room.
(Yes, I like the Twilight series.  The books are much better than the movies in my opinion, but I'll save that debate for another post.)

In my son's room.  He has marbles in his.

And with bamboo growing in one.

I have more tucked away that I'll often use as a vase for fresh flowers in the spring and summer.

We are remodeling our kitchen and I think I may buy some canning jar hanging lights to put over the bar.  I have been searching the web and so far, I think I like these from Lamp Goods on Etsy the best.  Plus, they are handmade! How much better can it get?

What's your favorite quote?

One of the bloggers I follow, Regina at  Live Delightfully  posted about some of her favorite  quotes.  Go read it here Thursday Thoughtfuls
Here is my all time favorite quote

"There are far more roads on which you may traverse life's path, than those that seem to have been preordained for you by others."

From Jimmy Buffet's book
"A Salty Piece of Land"

So, this got me thinking. . .What are some of your favorite quotes?

Hidden jokes in movies

So my husband and I watch A LOT of movies.

About a week ago, we watched "Tommy Boy" for the 15th or so time.  Remember, this is the one with Chris Farley (R.I.P.), David Spade and Dan Aykroyd.  It is based in Sandusky, Ohio and is based around auto parts manufacturers, Callahan Auto Parts and Zalinsky Auto Parts.

Two nights ago we were watching "50 First Dates", (again for who knows who many times) with Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler and Dan Aykroyd.  When "Lucy" (played by Barrymore) realizes that she has brain damage as a result of an auto accident, her family takes her to see her doctor. The doctor, played by Aykroyd, explains that the state of the art rehab facility is fully funded by, T.B. CALLAHAN out of SANDUSKY, OHIO!!!!

I think it is hilarious when they do this kind of cross reference thing in movies, and even better when I get the joke!

Look for it next time you watch it.

UPDATE >>> I was just searching for this topic on the web, and apparently, several other people made this same connection several years ago.  Oh well, I still got a great laugh at it.

This is actually the second sock monkey I have made.  Currently I'm not selling them in my shop, but who knows. . .maybe some day.  I really enjoy making them.

In Memory of. . .

Here are my two most recent custom quilts.  Both of these people had posted an Alchemy request to turn their loved ones clothing into a quilt.  I bid on both and my bids were accepted.  I feel so honored to be entrusted with the creation of these special pieces.

The first customer's is made using her late Grandfather's neck ties.  She hired me to make this lap quilt for her Grandmother for Christmas.  She picked out the pattern and fabrics and shipped them to me. She said her Grandfather wore a tie everyday.  I love the way this turned out!

The second customer sent me her late Father's dress shirts and additional material to make this queen sized quilt for her younger sister and new husband for Christmas.  Their Father was described to me as a well-dressed, dapper man who was extremely loved and missed.  Again, I love the way this one turned out also!

Thank you both for the pleasure of creating these special heirloom quilts for you and your family!!!
